VACANCY 

LEGAL AND ADMINISTRATION MANAGER

 

 

Press Corporation Plc invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the soon to be vacant position of Legal and Administration Manager tenable at its Corporate Head Office in Blantyre.

Reporting to the Group Administration Executive and General Counsel, the successful candidate will play a critical role in assisting the General Counsel in managing the legal, administration, and HR functions

Duties and Responsibilities


The duties and responsibilities of the position will among others include the following functions:

Legal and Regulatory Function:

  • Representing PCL or any of its subsidiaries in all Courts of Law
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legislation
  • Providing legal, regulatory and compliance advice to PCL and Group Company Management on various matters particularly commercial, contractual and labour.
  • Carrying out legal due diligence
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal instruments such as contracts, MOUs, Confidentiality Agreements/Non-Disclosure Agreements; Articles of Association; Shareholders Agreements etc.
  • Assist the General Counsel in developing the departmental budget and Plan of Activities.
  • Carrying out conveyancing work in respect of property transactions.
  • Liaising with external lawyers retained by PCL or any of the Group Companies.
  • Carrying out any other duties as assigned by the GAE/GC from time to time. 

 

Administrative Function

  • Overseeing the management of the Corporate Office and its resources, including fleet management, security and office resources.
  • Assisting the GAE/GC in ensuring effective administrative oversight of Corporate Office

 

 

Human Resources Function

  • Assisting the GAE/GC in overseeing the human resource function of PCL
  • Providing advise on disciplinary processes and the implementation of Conditions of Service and other relevant policies
  • Managing leave days for staff

 

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for a hardworking, ethical and dedicated individual with strict attention to detail. Applicants should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree.
  • At least 4 years post admission experience, of which two must be in a legal or commercial environment.
  • Candidates with some knowledge or experience in administrative and/or human relations functions and duties will have an added advantage
  • Valid law practicing license.
  • Computer literacy is a must.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, with little supervision and within tight deadlines.

MANAGING DIRECTOR

 

An opportunity will soon arise after the retirement of the incumbent later in the year for the Board of Macsteel (Malawi) Limited, jointly owned by the Press Group of companies and Macsteel Services Centres South Africa, to appoint a new Managing Director. The successful candidate is expected to report on 1st November 2020.

The Company


Macsteel (Malawi) Limited is the largest leading manufacturer and distributor of high quality steel, wire and roofing products to the construction industry in Malawi. The company is head quartered in Blantyre and has a regional office in Lilongwe responsible for operations in the centre and north of Malawi in addition to a number of retail shops across the country. The Company is a Joint Venture between Press Corporation Plc and Macsteel Service Centres SA (Pty) Limited with the latter having management responsibilities.

The Position


The Managing Director shall be in overall charge of the day to day management of the Company. The position reports to a board of directors which in turn provides the necessary oversight and policy direction. The successful candidate is expected to lead in the development and execution of the Company’s long term strategy with a view to enhancing shareholder value. Through his contribution on Board as an executive director, the successful candidate will be part of a team of like-minded executives in providing strategic direction for the Company. The position is tenable in Blantyre, Malawi.

 

Duties and Responsibilities


The duties and responsibilities of the Managing Director include, but are not restricted to:

  • Providing overall strategic leadership and management of the operations of the Company;
  •  Leading and overseeing the implementation of the Company’s long and short term plans in accordance with its approved Strategy;
  • Ensuring the Company is appropriately organized and staffed to enable it to achieve its objectives;
  • Building and maintaining a culture of excellence so as to ensure that the Company maintains its position on the pinnacle of the steel industry in Malawi;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective internal control systems.
  • Developing measures, processes and initiatives that would improve efficiencies and cushion the Company from existing and potential challenges and risks, so as to improve profitability;
  • Managing the budget and ensuring adherence to the approved annual budget of the Company;
  • Performing such duties as may be assigned by the Board from time to time. Key Result Areas

The major accountabilities for the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Strategic and Enterprise Planning: Leading in the development and execution of the Company’s strategic and business plans to ensure that the Company achieves its growth and profitability targets;
  • Market Development and Market Share Growth: Ensure the Company grows its annual turnover and profitability on a sustainable basis.
  • Distribution Systems Management: Ensuring effective storage, distribution and sustained availability of the Company’s products within the Malawi market; and
  • Team Building and Cultural Change: Providing leadership in talent identification and change management so as to entrench ownership, culture and integrity values among employees;

 

Desired Qualities and Competencies
The Managing Director will have the following demonstrable qualities and skills:

  • Proven leadership skills: Strong and demonstrable leadership to achieve transformational change among staff, both culturally and commercially;
  • Strategic Thinking: The ability to analyse the Company's competitive position and to be innovative in problem solving;
  • Business Acumen: Ability to engage various stakeholders to expand the Company’s reach;
  • Communication and Negotiation skills: Ability to articulate the Company’s vision, enhance team work and to negotiate business contracts.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • At least a Master’s Degree in Business Administration/ Finance/ Marketing/ Entrepreneurship or related field from a recognised and accredited institution.
  • At least Seven (7) years’ experience at senior and strategic level, of which at least four (4) must be either from steel; construction; or general retail industry.
  • Must possess a track record of increasing and sustaining sales growth and profitability even in challenging market conditions.
  • Hands-on experience in implementing turn-around strategies for a company with operational and financial challenges will be an added advantage.
