Press Corporation Plc is a diversified Group with interests in the financial services, telecommunications, food and beverages, retail, energy and agro-industrial sectors of the Malawi economy. An opportunity will soon arise after the retirement of the incumbent later in the year for the Company to appoint a new Group Operations Executive who will be part of the Company’s Executive Management Team. It is expected that the successful candidate will join the Group on 1st September 2020.


Reporting to the Group Chief Executive, this is a senior executive position tenable at PCL Corporate Office in Blantyre. The ideal candidate will have at least ten (10) years of experience in a similar position at a senior level. The candidate must be able to initiate change as well as manage the changing environment through appropriate advice to the Group Chief Executive, the PCL Executive Management Team and the leadership of Group companies. In this regard knowledge and experience of financial and project management as well as proven track record and ability to provide strategic leadership within a commercial setting are vital ingredients for the position. In particular, candidates with demonstrable experience of having turned around businesses are likely to be considered favorably.


The Position

As a member of the Executive Management Team at Corporate Office, you shall be responsible for coordinating and providing support to the planning and implementation of the operations of the Group’s subsidiary companies. Acting through the Group Chief Executive, you shall be updating the PCL Board regularly on the performance of the Group companies generally and, specifically, on the status and progress of projects being implemented at any of the Group’s subsidiaries as well as at Corporate Office.  As Reporting Executive, you will be the link between management of Group companies and Corporate Office.

Duties and Responsibilities


Some of the duties and responsibilities of the position will include:


·         Overseeing and directing the operations of Group companies

·         Evaluating the performance of projects, operational processes and procedures of Group companies

·         Championing the provision of high-quality products and services by Group companies

·         Briefing and advising the PCL Board through the Group Chief Executive on Group operations and projects

·         Co-ordinating communication between the Corporate Head Office and Group  companies on company performance

·         Overseeing the development and execution of projects, turnaround strategies and implementation plans for Group companies

·         Assisting Group companies with the formulation of annual budgets

·         Monitoring development and succession plans of senior members of staff in Group companies

·         Building effective working relationships with stakeholders including Government



 Applicants should have a first degree in business, finance, accounting or economics and a Masters in Business Administration or equivalent post graduate qualification. Specialization in finance or project management will be an added advantage. More importantly, the successful candidate must be a hands-on executive with a proven and successful record in the promotion of growth and profitability.
